I’m Derek Steven Grimsley, a life artist working across movement and wellness, grooming, paint and sound. Different rooms, the same attention.
Story
One practice, many rooms.
I often say I’m an experienced mistake maker, and I have a plethora of different life experiences. I consider myself a life artist and enjoy expressing that through many mediums and environments.
Born in Southern California, I played baseball and football mainly, and did some acting in commercials as a child. Moved to Lakeland, Florida at 14 and have been in Florida ever since.
Challenging the status quo and never fitting into the normal path for life, after an abrupt career change I ended up as a cosmetologist, spending 10 years in that craft before moving into barbering for 5 more, and then about a decade later I was introduced to yoga and mindfulness practices. I had previously explored psychedelics and other consciousness-expanding practices, ultimately finding yoga, movement, meditation, and health and wellness to be my muse.
Speaking of muse, I’ve also been creating music for over 20 years, from hip-hop beginnings to EDM and dubstep fused with hip-hop influence.

Ten years of cosmetology behind the chair, and it still comes from the same place as the mat. About an hour where nobody needs anything from you, and you leave looking a little more like yourself.

The Sound
Music
Twenty years of making music, and it started with hip-hop. It has moved into EDM and dubstep since, still carrying the weight and the drums of where it began. Records made for the hours nobody watches.
Releases: DSG and STOP. More gets added when it is finished, not before.
